Malaysia ease past Japan to make sepak takraw World Cup semis

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's sepak takraw squad had no trouble securing a spot in the team regu semi-finals of the World Cup after defeating Japan.

The team secured a 2-0 win against the Japanese team at the Titiwangsa Stadium on Friday (May 22).

Malaysia fielded Syahir Rosdi, Azlan Alias and Farhan Adam as the first regu. Despite being forced to make a substitution by bringing in Zarif Merican to replace Syahir, Malaysia claimed the win with 15-9, 15-6.

The momentum continued with the second regu squad featuring Afifuddin Razali, Aidil Aiman Zawawi and Zulkifli Razak.

Although the Japanese regu team attempted to stop Malaysia using a double-block tactic, it was not enough to prevent Malaysia's second regu team from winning 15-6 and 15-8.

Malaysia will face either Indonesia or the Philippines in the semi-finals on Saturday (May 23).
