Malaysia's sepak takraw regu, quadrant teams in World Cup semis

PETALING JAYA: It was double joy for Malaysia on Monday (May 18) after both the national sepak takraw regu and quadrant teams advanced to the semi-finals of the World Cup.

In the quarter-finals at Stadium Titiwangsa, the regu squad comprising Farhan Adam, Syahir Rosdi and Azlan Alias had no trouble brushing aside the Philippines, represented by Vince Torno, Ronsited Gabayeron and Glinder Phori.

The team, coached by Ahmad Jais Baharun, cruised to a 15-9, 15-5 victory and will next face Myanmar, who defeated India by the same scoreline.

Earlier in the quadrant event, the Malaysian quartet of Amizul Zazwan, Afifuddin Razali, Shahalril Aiman and Aidil Aiman Zawawi defeated the Philippines.

Philippines, represented by Jason Huerte, Rheyjey Ortouste, Datu Ken Interno and Reynaldo Asilum, put up a strong fight before Malaysia sealed a 15-13, 15-10 victory.

Malaysia will take on Vietnam in the semi-finals on Tuesday (May 19).
