BANGKOK: Debutants Yow Mei Yee, Seah Jing Ying and Wong Zin put the smiles back on the Malaysian taekwondo camp by winning the women's recognised poomsae team event at Fashion Island Mall on Wednesday (Dec 10).

The trio scored 8.560 points to edge Thailand, who earned 8.450, in the final to contribute the second gold for Malaysia contingent.

Earlier in the day, pooomsae exponents Nur Humaira Abdul Karim and Jason Loo missed out on a gold of the Games after being eliminated following a controversial decision in the quarter-finals of the mixed pair event.

It's the second SEA Games gold for Malaysia as they had won it through the men's hockey 5s.

In the semi-finals of the poomsae competition, Mei Yee and Co had defeated Timor Leste while the hosts overcame Vietnam.

Malaysia thus finished the poomsae competition with one gold and two bronze medals.

Chin Ken Haw, Randy Owen Augustine and Jason Loo took bronze in the men's recognized poomsae team event.

Ken Haw also earned bronze in the men's individual freestyle event.
