Pahang upstage fancied Johor to lift Super Schools rugby title


We're the champions: Malaysian Sports School Pahang celebrate after winning the Super Schools Rugby Academy Division title.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Sports School Pahang have emerged victorious in the Super Schools Rugby Academy Division after defeating defending champions Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School 12-10 in a dramatic match on Sunday at Putrajaya Equestrian Park, Putrajaya.

Head coach Yusli Ashan was delighted with the win.

“This isn’t just a victory, it’s the culmination of our work. I am very proud of this team of young players who displayed outstanding character through our the challenging period. They were disciplined and united throughout the season,” said Yusli.

They youngsters were calm despite strong opposition throughout the game.

Two tries from Airel Nurafifi Azhar and Mohd Ibrahim Bakhtiar as well as a conversion from Mohd Adam Hadafie was enough for Pahang to claim the trophy and a cash prize of RM10,000.

Their rivals had one try through Mohd Haikal Ismail and Mohd Razali Rizal converted but failed to add points via penalty kick in the final moments despite the opportunities.

Selangor Rugby Academy and SMK King Edward VII completed the top four list of the season.
