Fighter Johan fails to end Johan's unbeaten run in One Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Muay thai prodigy Johan Ghazali failed to end Johan Estupinan's unbeaten run in the One Championship after losing in the One 170 fight on Friday (Jan 24).

The three-round bout in the flyweight category was ultimately decided by the judges, who unanimously awarded the victory to Estupinan, who extended his undefeated streak to 27 fights at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.

Johan, fondly known as Jojo, held his ground well in the first round when he absorbed Estupinan’s attacks and managed to send the Colombian fighter to the canvas twice.

The second round was also intense but the fight was briefly halted when Estupinan complained of pain in his groin area. Once resumed, both fighters exchanged punches and kicks in an all-out battle.

In the third and final round, Estupinan ramped up the pressure, landing a punch that caused Johan’s right eyebrow to bleed.

However, the 18-year-old Sarawakian remained unfazed and continued to fight back with determination but the judge eventually chose the Colombian as the winner.

The defeat marks Johan’s only second by an unanimous decision, having previously lost to Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat in the One 167 fight last June.
