PETALING JAYA: Three young Malaysian dancers did the nation proud by bagging two gold medals and reaching the final in another event at the London Open dancesport tournament over the weekend.

Cherry Yeo claimed gold in the adult female solo Latin category while Madeleine Lau was also victorious in the youth female solo Latin event.

Zurie Ooi did well to reach the final in the adult female solo Latin class.

The trio, who are under the Kuala Lumpur Dancesport Association, were coached by MY Dancesport academy coaches Chua Zjen Fong and Evon Chong.

Dancers from 25 countries took part in the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) sanctioned event.

Zjen Fong was pleased with their performances, which helped boost their rankings.

“Madeleine performed brilliantly. Her elegance and technical prowess impressed the judges, contributing to the team’s overall success and boosting her youth female solo Latin ranking to world No. 4 with 1,832 points.

“Cherry was also outstanding, her solo performance was one of the highlights of the competition, showcasing her exceptional talent and artistry.

“As a result, her adult female solo Latin ranking rose to world No. 2 with 870 points,” he said.

Cherry has been in strong form in recent seasons and won three golds at the Mallorca Dance Festival in Spain last year and one gold at the Bremen DanceSport Festival in Germany earlier this year.
