PETALING JAYA: Tan Cheong Min continued to make Malaysia proud on the big stage by grabbing gold at the Asian Wushu Championships in Macau today.
The 26-year-old, who was the last opponent to appear on court, did not put a foot wrong with her routine to claim gold in the women's nandao (sword) event with 9.693 points.
Uzbekistan's Darya Latisheva settled for silver with 9.690 while Iran's Helia Asadian got the bronze with 9.676.
It is the second medal for the Melaka-born exponent as she had taken silver in the nanquan event earlier with 9.693 points. China's Zhang Yaling won the contest with 9.810 points.
Cheong Min has never taken part in the Asian championships before and she thus achieved the feat of making the podium in all the major competitions in her sport.
Cheong Min won the nandao event at the 2019 world championships in Shanghai and then became a double gold medallist for Malaysia at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
Last year also saw Cheong Min delivering the only medal in wushu for Malaysia - a silver - at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Bryan Ti Kai Jie also continued to bring cheers for Malaysia after picking up his second medal in Macau.
The 20-year-old took silver in the men's nandao event (9.703) behind China's Du Hongjie (9.796).
Bryan delivered the first gold for Malaysia when he won the men's nanquan contest on Thursday.
Malaysia team also secured two bronze medals through Si Shin Peng (men's jianshu) and Clement Ting (men's gunshu).
The Asian championship, which is held every four years, ends on Sunday.
