No splashing show from sailors as they miss cut

SAILORS Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy and Nur Shazrin Latif failed to make their way into the final medal race in the Paris Olympic Games.

With only the top 10 sailors advancing into the medal race, both Khairulnizam and Shazrin are out of range to advance into the final fight.

In the men’s dinghy event, Khairulnizam sits in 32nd after eight races with 168 points, a large margin to catch up with the frontrunners who scored below 100.

With the lowest score being dropped from the 10 opening races, Khairulnizam had his eighth race results dropped, as he crossed the finish line off the coast of Marseille in 34th.

The 31-year-old finished 32nd in Race 1 and 15th in Race 2.

Khairulnizam’s best finish at the Olympics came at the 2020 Tokyo edition when he finished in 28th.

Meanwhile, Shazrin started better compared to her compatriot in the women’s dinghy event when she finished 19th in the first race.

But her second race results were dropped as she crossed the line in 38th.

However, the 26-year-old’s performance in the remaining races saw her finish in the high 20s and lower 30s.
