Experience gained after loss will stand Dr Tee in good stead for next Asiad

Fighting on: Tee Lip Jin lost in the early round of the ju-jitsu competition but it will not stop him from aiming for the next Asiad in Nagoya, Japan.

JU-JITSU exponent Dr Tee Lip Jin has weighed in his future in the sport after suffering an early round knockout in his first Asian Games.

And the 35-year-old is staying on.

“I will hang around for another Asian Games adventure,” vowed Lip Jin.

His first Asiad campaign ended in the men’s below 85kg last 16 but the experience of fighting against Asia’s best has whetted his appetite to make another run at the next edition in Nagoya, Japan three years from now.

Lip Jin defeated Qatari Ahmad Al-Quradaghi 4-0 in the first round to enter the last 16 stage before losing to Cheng Wei-chu of Taiwan on submission technique.

Lip Jin, who is a PhD scholar in physics and psychology, was not disappointed with the outcome.

“It’s not that great but I felt I learnt a lot of things from my campaign,” he said.

“I only weigh 82kg but I competed for the first time against heavier guys who are about 90kg but they had lowered their weight to 85kg to fit into this category.

“I probably need to gain weight and manage myself well until the next Asian Games.

“Now I know what I need to tweak to be better prepared.

“Hopefully, our association will continue to support us by sending us for more competitions,” added Lip Jin, who is from Seremban.

Ju-jitsu is only contested at the Asian Games for the second time and made its debut in Indonesia five years ago.
