Chee Hoong brings home boccia World Cup gold

KUALA LUMPUR: National para athlete Lee Chee Hoong kept the Malaysian flag flying high in Riffa, Bahrain, after he brought home a gold medal in the boccia World Cup.

Wheelchair-bound Chee Hoong swept past Indonesia’s Muhammad Bintang Satria Herlangga, 6-3, in the men’s BC2 final.

The result also meant that Chee Hoong managed to avenge his 4-5 defeat at the hands of Bintang in a tight Pool D battle previously.

Phakphum Linchum of Thailand won bronze as he subdued his compatriot, Worawut Saengampa, 5-2, for the third place match.

Meanwhile, Paralympic Council of Malaysia in a Facebook post congratulated Chee Hoong on his remarkable feat in Bahrain.

“We are proud of you,” they said. — Bernama
