PETALING JAYA: Cricket wicketkeeper Harinder Sekhon not only excels outdoors but he equally shines indoors too.

The 29-year-old made his way into the Malaysia Book of Records when he broke the national record for the highest standing jump with 1.397m on Monday.

Starting out just for his personal fitness, it then became a fascination when he realised that he could jump higher in every training session.

“To be honest, the feeling hasn’t really sunk in yet. There are a lot of mixed emotions right now. Pushing my body to its limit almost every day for the past few months to break the record does make me feel really good, ” he said.

“It’s something I did for my fitness as a wicketkeeper for the national team. I only started taking it seriously and competitively in December last year.”

When asked if he would want to break his record, Harinder said he is game for it.

“I started feeling confident about attempting the record in January this year, and yes, I’ll definitely be looking to break my own record and other categories like the single leg standing jump in future.”

The world record for the standing jump is held by American Christopher Spell, who recorded 1.7m in February this year.
