Bodybuilder Lilian Tan flexes her way to fourth world title

PETALING JAYA: Lilian Tan flexed her way to her fourth title in the women's 55kg category at the World Bodybuilding and Physical Fitness Championships in Chiangmai, Thailand.

Lilian, who is from Penang, is the only Asian athlete to win it four times.

She also took home the gold in the 30-year and above category on Friday night.

Lilian was triumphant in Bangkok in 2012, Mumbai (2014) and Pattaya (2016).

She is a shining example of where it will get you with strong drive and determination.

The National Sports Council, with has cost-cutting measures in place, could only provide her with limited funding this time.

Lilian had to resort to crowdfunding to realise her dream of competing for a fourth world title.

She managed to raise the desired amount to cover the trip and the rest is history.

The organisers introduced a new category – 30 years and above – this year.

This year will be one to cherish for Lilian as when she got married to former Asian bodybuilding champion Terry Gallyot in April.

Syarul Azman Mahen will bid for a third world title when he competes in the men's athletic physique up to 170cm later Saturday (Dec 15).
