Teen sailor delivers Malaysia's sixth gold

JAKARTA: Teenage sailor Fauzi Kaman Shah won the Laser 4.7 Open category to claim the sixth gold medal for Malaysia at the 18th edition of the Asian Games at Ancol Beach Marina here Friday (Aug 31).

The 15-year-old finished 12 races with nett 19 points to come in first ahead of China's Wang Jianxiong.

The Chinese sailor earned nett 39 points while India's Harshita Tomar took bronze with nett 50 points.

It was Malaysia's 4th gold in Asian Games sailing history.

Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy became the first Malaysian to qualify for the 2020 Olympics after winning silver in the men's laser standard.

It will be the third Olympic campaign for Khairulnizam, who had to settle for second place behind two-time defending champion Ha Jee-min of South Korea.

Malaysia also got two bronze medals from Nuraisyah Jamil-Norasyikin Mohd Sayed in women's 470 class and Nuur Fatin Solehah Abdul Rahman-Ilham Wahab in mixed RS One.
