GOLD COAST: Weightlifter Mohd Aznil Bidin enjoyed a memorable outing in the Commonwealth Games by winning gold in the men’s below 62kg category.

The 24-year-old Aznil from Kedah lifted 126kg in snatch and 162kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 288kg at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre on Thursday.

He improved his personal best of 279kg, which he did at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games last year en route to finishing fourth.

The gold certainly justified Aznil's inclusion in the Podium Programme.

It is Malaysia and the weightlifting team's second gold. Mohd Azroy Hazalwafie Izhar Ahmad had earlier won gold in the below 56kg.
