PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian men's and women's triples lawn bowls teams are on course for a double after notching three consecutive wins in their respective categories in the preliminary rounds of the third Asian Championships at the National Lawn Bowls Centre in Bukit Kiara here yesterday.
In the men's triples, Zuraidi Puteh, Azizan Saidon and Syed Mohamed Syed Akil defeated Brunei 32-15 yesterday. In the earlier rounds, they beat Indonesia (31-14) and Thailand (30-14).
The women's triples team of Saedah Abdul Rahim, Nazrah Ngahat and Haslah Hassan defeated Brunei 36-6 yesterday. They had earlier defeated Indonesia (25-10) and Thailand (24-10).
In the men's pairs, Manchester Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Safuan Said and Jozaini Johari have two wins and a defeat after three rounds of the preliminary competition.
Safuan and Jozaini lost to Brunei's Rosli Ibrahim and Lokman Salleh of Brunei 11-17 yesterday. The Malaysian pair had won the first two rounds easily, defeating the pairs from Indonesia 23-7 and Thailand 21-11.
In the women's pairs, Siti Zalina Ahmad and Norhashimah Ismail lost their opening tie 13-26 to Vivathana Ipipanipong and Rosrin Sornmani of Thailand. But the Malaysians bounced back yesterday, defeating Indonesia 20-17 and Brunei 29-8.
