BIRMINGHAM: Sweden's Carolina Klueft came agonisingly close to setting a new world record in the pentathlon event at the World Indoor Championships in Athletics in Birmingham on Friday.
The two-time world junior heptathlon champion, was competing in her first pentathlon and led from the start. Coming to the final event, the 800 metres, Klueft needed a time of 2:11.45 seconds to break the world record of 4,991 points, which Russian Irina Belova set 11 years ago.
