PETALING JAYA: Selangor are in no rush to sign a second foreign player although their opening match of the season is just a week away.
Despite a stuttering start, which has seen the team struggle in a quadrangular in Singapore, team manager Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad said the Giants would make do with the players they have now.
The Malaysia Cup defending champions currently have Croatian defender Ivica Kulasevic on their payroll. However, Mokhtar said, they were still on the lookout for a foreigner to fill up the one vacant spot. They have until July 26 before registration of foreigners closes.
“There have been a few players who had come to us saying they would like to play for Selangor. But we do not want to rush things.
“We will assess their performance in trials. We only want a player who can easily fit in with the coach's plans,” said Mokhtar.
Selangor open the season with the Charity Shield match against Penang at the Batu Kawan Stadium on Feb 9.
