PETALING JAYA: The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will continue to host the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix for the next five years.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohd Taufiq Johari said the government had approved the renewal for the race from 2027 to 2031.
“This renewal goes beyond securing Malaysia’s place on the MotoGP global calendar; it reflects our commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s position as a leading motorsports destination while creating opportunities through economic growth, talent development and industry expansion,” he said in a statement from MotoGP.
Meanwhile, MotoGP chief executive officer Carmelo Ezpeleta said the racing body has seen a strong fanbase in Malaysia, with the positive impact of MotoGP growing year after year.
“Now, we aim to grow both exponentially. Sepang is a fantastic home for our sport. It’s well connected to one of the world’s truly global cities, Kuala Lumpur.
“Great racing, local passion and international appeal create an unforgettable event every year in Malaysia, and we look forward to returning until 2031,” he said.
The Malaysian leg of the MotoGP World Championship has been on the calendar since 1999, except in 2020 and 2021, when it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
MotoGP’s presence in Malaysia has grown exponentially since its start, with the race recording its highest attendance in history last year with a total of 190,977 spectators.
The 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix will take place from Oct 30-Nov 1.
