PETALING JAYA: In two occasions that Viper Niza Racing Team have been to the legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, they have successfully made it to the winner’s podium.
The Malaysian outfit will attempt to make it three podium finishes in three visits at Round 2 of the Michelin 24H Series this weekend.
The trio of Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh powered their green Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO car to second in the GT3 AM Class and sixth overall (from a field of 37 international teams) to begin their 2025 Michelin 24H Series campaign in outstanding fashion.
All three drivers had also won the PRO/AM class at the inaugural TCR SPA500 (500 laps) race behind the wheel of a Seat Cupra TCR DSG on their very first visit to Spa Francorchamps in 2019.
Viper Niza Racing began this year’s Michelin 24H Series at Mugello in Italy last month successfully finishing the 12-Hour race fourth in the GT3-AM Class. They were also placed 10th overall after completing a total of 344 laps.
Spa Francorchamps is known for its fierce reputation and is notoriously famous for being one of the most high speed international circuits in the world.
The location itself is also known for highly unpredictable weather conditions and last year’s race saw competitors faced with a wet track during free practice while racing was completed in absolutely dry conditions.
“That is the beauty and appeal of Spa Francorchamps – its unpredictability. It is not a race to ever be taken lightly and despite our strong finishes at the circuit, we will go into this weekend taking nothing for granted.
“Relgarding our preparation, we already have the racing strategy all mapped out with full focus.
“The goal is to make it on the podium but we are not going to allow past accomplishments to get into our heads.
“It’s a long race and conditions we are all too familiar with – in an endurance race, to finish first, you must first finish,” said team principal and lead driver Douglas.
A total of 44 cars will be on the starting grid in Spa.
