PETALING JAYA: Malaysian racer Putera Adam Halim celebrated a stellar weekend after he clinched a double victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The 19-year-old, racing for Vincenzo Sospiri Racing together with teammate Paul Levet of France, swept the competition clean as they won both races in the fifth and penultimate round of the Championship.
In Race 1 on Saturday, Putera and Levet crossed the line with a time of 51:30.642s, ahead of Italian Benny Strignano in second (51:30.859s), and the duo of Amaury Bonduel-Sebastian Balthasar (51:34.194s).
Putera and Levet backed up their performance by climbing from seventh on the grid to win Race 2 on Sunday with a time of 50:42.560s, followed by Patrick Fraboni-Giacomo Pedrini (50:46.177s) and Elias de la Torre-Ethan Brown (50:48.451s).
"It was an amazing weekend and I couldn’t have asked for more," said Putera.
"We started seventh and there was a big mess at the start but I managed to get out and pass the car to Levet in second place.
"And from there, my teammate just took the lead of the race and brought it home."
Levet also had praise for his teammate, saying, "He (Putera) is giving me the honours but it’s a team job."
"He did a fantastic first stint and had an unbelievable weekend.
"It’s actually unbelievable to drive with a teammate and a friend. I think we make an amazing duo.
"There’s no secret to the double win, we just needed to do a perfect job," said Levet.
The pair’s second and third win in Spain came after they won Race 2 in Monza, Italy, in June during the championship’s second round.
At the following round at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Putera and Levet celebrated a back-to-back second-place finish.
Putera is now just three points away from championship leaders Enzo Geraci and Josef Knopp as they head into the final round at the Misano Circuit in Italy from Nov 6-7.
