Young rider Hakim set for Moto3 debut in home race

PETALING JAYA: The long wait has finally come to an end for national rider Hakim Danish Ramli as he is set to make his Moto3 debut through a wildcard entry in the PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from Oct 24-26.

SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said the wildcard slot for Hakim comes as a milestone for the 18-year-old, who has proven his ability on the international stage and will now take on the world’s best on home soil.

"Hakim has truly earned this wildcard," Azhan said on Wednesday (Sept 24).

"Three years after Syarifuddin Azman, Malaysians will once again witness one of our own competing in the Moto3 with SIC.

"This is going to be more than just a race. Hakim represents the very best of our motorsports development blueprint, having risen from grassroots all the way to the world stage.

''Hakim is, without a doubt, one of the best Malaysian talents of his generation."

The Terengganu-born rider, the first Malaysian to finish in the top three overall in the Red Bull Rookies Cup recently, has been part of SIC’s grassroots programme and has consistently excelled and delivered results that showcase his world-class potential.

Hakim was also the first Malaysian to win and secure multiple podium finishes in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2023 and last year, as well as the first to be crowned overall champion for the Asia Talent Cup since its inception in 2014.

"Hakim’s journey also represents the Youth and Sports Ministry and SIC’s collaborative effort to build champions through a clear development pathway, from grassroots to global competition.

"Hakim’s success stands as both a symbol of hope that he may one day become Malaysia’s first world champion and a source of inspiration for future generations of riders," Azhan added.
