KUALA LUMPUR: A new era and hope will begin for Sepang Racing Team (SRT) in the Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) as the team have been rebranded as RNF Racing.
According to an article in motogp.com, RNF Racing will race as an independent team from 2022 until 2026, with team principal Datuk Razlan Razali remaining at the helm as the project seeks to go to even greater heights. Razlan said expectations would definitely be high under the rebranded team but they would push hard to meet their goals.
“It has been a whirlwind journey for us. In recent months, we have put all our efforts to reset, rebrand and re-launch as a fresh and stronger MotoGP team,” said Razlan.
“Equipped with the experience we gained and having achieved multiple highlights in the past, we look forward to the 2022 season as an even stronger team entry,” he said.
Razlan thanked Dorna Sports (the exclusive commercial and television rights holder of MotoGP) chief executive officer Carmelo Ezpeleta for his continuous trust and confidence in him to begin this second chapter with a newly rebuilt team competing in MotoGP’s premier class for the next five years.
Ezpeleta said: “Razlan has been a great asset to the MotoGP family since his days in Sepang, and has helped to grow the sport in Malaysia and across the important South-East Asia region in general.”
The rebranding came about after the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) confirmed that they will release SRT to run as an independent entity from next year onwards following Petronas’ decision to end their four-year partnership with the team recently.
Through their collaboration, the team had a fantastic debut in the 2019 season, winning the top independent team award and finishing fourth in the MotoGP. — Bernama
