Leona makes history with double win in Malaysia C’ship Series

PETALING JAYA: Leona Chin (pic) of Tedco Racing scored a double victory from pole position in the M Production (MTC) category at the Sepang International Circuit recently.

It was a historic weekend as she became the first female to qualify on pole and chalk up a double win over the weekend in the Malaysia Championship Series.

Leona completed 21 laps around the 5.543m track to win Race 1 in 1’03:47.438 with a fastest lap time of 2:41.968.

After winning Race 1, an extra 30kg of ballast was added to Leona’s race car but she proved that it wasn’t an issue for her.

“With a well prepared car and a strong race strategy by Tedco, everything worked as planned,” said the 32-year-old driver after the prize-giving ceremony.

“Leona is very talented. I offered her a chance to race for my team this year and she grabbed it well by winning both races,” said Tedco Racing principal Rueben Wong.

Leona, who is in Tedco’s talent development programme, will now take part in the second round of the Malaysia Championship Series on April 19 also in Sepang.
