Young Speedy Tigers settle for fourth spot after going down 3-0 to Pakistan in Asia Cup

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's hockey boys had to settle for fourth spot at the Under-18 Asia Cup after suffering a 3-0 loss to Pakistan in Kakamigahara, Japan, on Saturday (June 6).

Malaysia, who were forced to play the third-fourth placing match after being thrashed 8-1 by Japan in the semi-final, failed to defend their bronze medal from last year’s edition in Dazhou, China.

Pakistan dominated the match with an early goal from Uzair Ahmad Qureshi in the third minute, before Haider Asam converted a penalty stroke in the 23rd minute and Adeel scored a field goal in the 59th minute.

Malaysia’s run in Japan saw them take only two wins and suffer three defeats.

The team started their campaign with a shocking 4-2 defeat to Bangladesh, before coming back to win 3-2 against Pakistan and 3-0 against China in the group stage.
