Afiqah brace steers women's hockey team to SEA Games title

CHONBURI: The national women's hockey team led by Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar swept aside Indonesia 6-0 to clinch the Thailand SEA Games gold medal on Friday (Dec 19).

Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Sharuddin set the tone with an eighth-minute opener at the National Sports University before Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi made it 2-0 in the 20th minute.

Khairunnisa struck again seven minutes later, and Afiqah widened the gap with quickfire goals in the 46th and 49th minutes.

Hanis Nadiah Onn capped the emphatic win with a late goal three minutes from time.

The women’s triumph came hot on the heels of the men’s team, who also struck gold after thrashing hosts Thailand 8-0 in the final.
