Hockey star Akhimullah and Co strike Malaysia's first SEA Games gold


Well done, boys: Hockey 5s deliver country's first SEA Games gold.

BANGKOK: The national men’s hockey 5s team delivered Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Thailand SEA Games after they defeated Indonesia 7-3 at the Royal Thai Air Force Hockey Stadium on Wednesday (Dec 10). 

Malaysia’s captain, Akhimullah Anuar Esook was the first to find the back of the net in the seventh minute. 

Abid Sufian Mat Ruslee then extended the lead a minute later, before Luqman Ahmad Shkuran made it three before half time. 

In the second half, Akhimullah scored his second goal in the 17th minute.

Indonesia then got themselves back into match when they scored in the 19th minute through Mochamad Fathur. 

But Sufian stepped up again and made it 5-1 in the 22nd minute, before Indonesia’s Alfandy Prastyo scored two goals back-to-back in the 24th and 25th minutes. 

With two minutes left on the clock, Akhimullah got his hat-trick of the day in the 29th minute, before Shafiq Ikmal Daniel wrapped up Malaysia’s gold medal winning match with the seventh goal. 

This was the first time hockey 5s has been contested at the SEA Games.
