Azimuddin on target as Malaysia hold Australia in Sultan of Johor Cup

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia managed to hold Australia to a 1-1 draw in their second Sultan of Johor Cup match on Sunday (Oct 12). 

The team struck early at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru as Azimuddin Shakir Kamaruddin converted a penalty corner in 13th minute. 

Malaysia stayed in the lead for the majority of the match, but Australia’s Ian Grobbelaar came to his team’s rescue and equalised in the 47th minute after converting a penalty corner. 

Nor Saiful Zaini’s boys are still searching for their first win in the competition after they suffered a 7-2 thrashing from Pakistan in their opening match on Saturday (Oct 11). 

Malaysia’s next match will be against New Zealand on Tuesday (Oct 14).
