Germany lift Sultan of Johor Cup for second time

PETALING JAYA: Germany have lifted the Sultan of Johor Cup title for a second time after an 11 year wait.

The team coached by Rein van Eijk beat Australia 3-1 in a penalty shootout after both sides were scoreless during regulation time on Saturday (Nov 4).

Florian Sperling was the hero by scoring the winner in the shootout. The other scorers were Matteo Poljaric and Michel Struthoff but Hugo von Montgelas missed his penalty shot

Australia’s only penalty was scored by Craig Marais.

Germany last lifted the title in 2012 when they beat India 3-2.

In the bronze medal playoff, India beat Pakistan 6-5 in a penalty shootout, after both sides were held 3-3 in regulation time.
