Malaysia fail to qualify for Asian Games hockey semi-finals

HANGZHOU: The Malaysia Hockey team will not make it to the Asian Games semi-finals.

The team led by coach A. Arulselvaraj was held 4-4 by host China in their final Pool B match at the Gongshu Canal Park Stadium on Monday (Oct 2).

Malaysia’s goals were scored by Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (18th), Ashran Hamsani (25th), Amirul Hamizan Azahar (35th) and Faiz Helmi Jali (40th).

China’s goals were scored by Gao Jiesheng (13th), Chen Qijun (19th), Pan Dongquan (36th) and Zhu Weijiang (43rd).

The draw sees Malaysia finishing third in the group with 10 points, China finishing second with 11 and South Korea finishing with 12. Only the top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-final.

In Pool A, India topped the group with 15 points, while Japan finished second with 12.
