Malaysia notch easy win at Asian Champions Trophy

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia enjoyed a rousing start in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey event when they secured a commanding 3-1 win over Pakistan in Chennai on Thursday (Aug 3).

Striker Firhan Ashaari scored a brace through field goals in the 28th and 29th minutes to give the Speedy Tigers the breakthrough in the second quarter.

Another field goal in the 44th minute through attacking midfielder Shello Silverius put Malaysia in control.

Pakistan hit back in the 55th minute through a field goal from Abdel Rahman but Malaysia held on stoutly to earn three points.

In another opening match, South Korea secured a narrow 2-1 win over Japan.

The Tigers play China in their second match in the six-team competition on Friday (Aug 4).
