Rhythmic gymnast Joe Ee ends career with SEA Games bronze

BANGKOK: National rhythmic gymnast Ng Joe Ee brought the curtain down on her career by clinching bronze in the individual all-around at the SEA Games on Tuesday (Dec 16).

The 20-year-old shared the bronze with Thailand’s Piyada Peeramatukorn after both gymnasts finished on 96.890 points at Thammasat University in Pathum Thani.

The Philippines’ Althea Ramilo Jasmine took gold with a score of 102.180, while Singapore’s Angeline Yang claimed silver on 101.490.

“This is my last competition as I am retiring from the sport due to injuries,” said Joe Ee, who enjoyed a glittering career that included two gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

A day earlier, Joe Ee had led the team to gold on Monday. 

Malaysia also won a medal in the group exercise when the team bagged silver. 

Carol Na, Valerie Ng, Maia Ong, Bernice See and Syamimi Amalia Shahrizam dazzled the judges to score 22.50 points. 

Hosts Thailand took gold after scoring 22.90 points while Philippines claimed bronze with a score of 13.27.
