GOLD COAST: Malaysia won a team silver medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games.

The trio of Amy Kwan Dict Weng, Koe Sie Yan and Izzah Amzan dazzled their way to a combined score of 127.950 by displaying a delightful show in the hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre on Wednesday.

Cyprus took the gold with 130.625 and Australia bagged the bronze with 120.800.

Amy was in the team that won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow four years ago.

Debutants Sie Yan and Izzah impressed in their debut with a superb and consistent performance too - hardly making any glaring mistakes in their routines.

But a 20-year-wait for a team gold continues.

Malaysia last won the team gold through Carolyn Au-Yong, Thye Chee Kiat, El Regina Tajuddin and Sarina Sundara Rajah at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games.

Elaine Koon is the only rhythmic gymnast to have won an individual gold at the Games in New Delhi in 2010.
