PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Foong Zi Yu finally got her act right to win the 40th Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open, prevailing in a three-hole playoff against Amberly Zaira Zamri at the Garden Course, Glenmarie Golf and Country Club.
Zi Yu, who is currently studying at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, captured her maiden local amateur title after finishing regulation play tied with fellow Malaysian Amberly at one-under 215.
She held her composure in the sudden-death playoff, sealing victory with a par on the third extra hole.
The win was especially meaningful for Zi Yu, who finished runner-up in the 39th edition last year, as she showed remarkable perseverance to claim the title.
The 40th edition of the Open had attracted 120 players from 12 countries – Brunei, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States – reaffirming its reputation as one of the region’s premier amateur event.
