PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Ammer Aiman proved that he is among the promising young golfers in the country after emerging victorious in the boys’ Under-19 category at the International College Golf Championship in Singapore on Tuesday (June 2).
Ammer delivered a strong performance to edge out home player Randall Nie at the Laguna National in Singapore, while compatriot Aaron Hwang finished third.
The 19-year-old Ammer finished the three-day tournament with a four-under par, scoring 76,72,72 - a commendable result as the narrow and difficult course in Singapore regularly stages events on the Asian Tour.
Meanwhile, two 13-year-old Malaysians, Adli Hazim and Quinncie Choi, who were only recently included as part of the National Junior Development Programme, proved they deserved their spot with strong results in Singapore.
Adli emerged champion in the boys’ Under-13 category with a two-stroke advantage over Japan’s Shota Suda and Singapore’s Amirul Ash Siddip.
The competition went on to the final hole, but Adli stayed composed to sink in a birdie to wrap up his outing with a 69, 78, 74 over three days.
Quinncie, meanwhile, came through to win the Girls C category, finishing 79, 73, 76 to come ahead of England’s Victoria Lai.
The tournament brought together over 100 junior players from more than 10 countries, as well as coaches from leading golf colleges in the United States who were there to scout for talent.
