PETALING JAYA: A bogey-free final day at the Webex Players Series Murray River propelled national golfer Ashley Lau to finish joint fifth on Feb 2 (Sunday) in Cobram, Australia.

The 24-year-old continued her fine form in the WPGA Australasia by finishing with a 19-under 265 at the Cobram Barooga Old Course, carding the lowest score of 62 on the final day to see her leapfrog from joint 23rd after the third round.

She shared joint fifth with third round leader Australian Jake McLeod, who came in with an even-par 71 on the final day.

Ashley’s nine-under finish on Saturday was equal with Australia’s Ryan Peake, who also carded a 62 finish.

Ashley had a shaky start to her campaign, coming in with a one-under 70, but managed to pull herself back up in the leaderboard with an eight-under 63 finish on the second day to see her sit in joint 10th before another 70 finish on the third day pulled her back down to joint 23rd.

Meanwhile, rising golfer Liyana Durisic had a good performance as she came in joint 14th.

The 23-year-old finished with a 15-under 269, carding 69-64-69-67 and placing her with Australians Brady Watt, Kelsey Bennet, Tyler Hodge, and Jye Pickin.

Australia’s Blake Proverbs broke through for a professional victory by taking the overall win after defeating compatriot Jason Norris in the third playoff round.

The win happened for Proverbs on the 18th hole, after Norris had to make four shots to sink the hole while Proverbs won the decider in two shots.
