THE Langkawi Amateur Golf Invitational that set about raising funds for a charitable organisation again proved a huge success with a good turnout and much generosity.

Organised by Ramada by Wyndham Langkawi Marina Hotel and Hospitality 360, the tournament was held at Els Club Teluk Datai and the title successfully defended by Datuk Roney Tan, who last year marked his victory with a hole-in-one.

He didn’t manage the perfect shot this time around, but all the same, was delighted with his performance in Langkawi.

“This is a great tournament, with people coming together to chip in and assist others in society who are less fortunate than most of us are,” said Tan, in reference to funds being raised for the Langkawi Autism Care Centre at the annual event.

The tournament that was packaged as a 3-day/2-nights stay on the island, a practice round at the venue the day before the event thrown in, and was well-run, according to Tan.

“It is also a pleasure to support a tournament that takes care of almost everything you could ask for,” said Tan.

“The organisation was once again first-class, and a pat on the back should be given to those who worked so hard to help raise funds for the autism centre,” he said.

Royal Langkawi Yacht Club executive director Azlan Abdullah added: “Indeed, the event would not be possible without the support received from several quarters.

“It goes without saying that we are most grateful to all the players, sponsors and suppliers who helped make the tournament a success, again.”

He saids that, given the reception the event received during its inauguration last year and the second edition this year, they were looking forward to hosting a third event next year.

Last year’s event raised funds for Rumah Anjung Kasih.

Rob Tan of Hospitality 360 said there were no takers for hole-in-one prizes – two Perodua cars sponsored by Delta Trend.

“We had a Perodua Aruz and a Perodua Axia on offer for a hole-in-one, however, there was no perfect shot struck this year,” said Rob.

“Also, on offer was a tailored suit worth RM8,000 sponsored by Bon Zainal, a Titoni timepiece worth RM15,000 and a stay voucher for Anatara Desaru Coast sponsored by Johor Golf Association’s Col Jamal Salleh.”

Built on the qualities of the holiday island destination, there was a full line-up of activities and catering in Langkawi for the participants, including a welcome poolside BBQ dinner, goodie bags and lucky draws.
