Gavin swings into third Games

Fingers crossed: Gavin Green has made it to the Olympics while Ashley Lau could also be joining him in Paris.

PETALING JAYA: Golfer Gavin Green brought joy to Malaysian sports at the beginning of the week by becoming the 21st athlete to qualify on merit for the Paris Olympics from July 26-Aug 11.

The 30-year-old, who plies his trade in the European Tour, confirmed his Olympic ticket after the men’s qualification campaign ended yesterday. He was ranked 53rd, with the top 60 making the cutoff for the Olympics golf tournament, which will take place at Le Golf National in Paris next month.
