MUHAMMAD Hisham Abdullah beat an international field at Seri Selangor Golf Club in Kota Damansara to win the fourth Tourism Selangor Tournament.

With his tally of 41 Stableford points, he put paid to the ambitions of players from Brunei, Cambodia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Vietnam, who included travel agents, interstate and domestic players, and celebrities.

Selangor state executive council member of Tourism and Environment, Hee Loy Sian, said in a statement: “This golf tournament’s journey is inspired by the concept of ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’, in which we organise tournaments at different locations each year.

“This year, we chose Seri Selangor as the venue for our fourth tournament as we see it as a way to show our support for Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, which is also celebrating its 16th anniversary this year.

“With the ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’ idea, we encourage participants to not only demonstrate their golfing skills, but also visit tourism sites around the golf courses we choose.

“For instance, there are several tourist attractions like the Chocolate Museum in Kota Damansara, Kidzania, The Curve, 1 Utama and Tropicana Gardens, all in close proximity to our event’s location this year,” he added.

With Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also in attendance, Tourism Selangor said they made “numerous improvements” to this year’s tournament, including the introduction of the ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’ campaign, lucky draw prizes worth RM200,000 and a Perodua Ativa for a hole-in-one.

A Tourism Selangor statement said there are 29 golf clubs in the state and that they have “a clear path to optimal sports tourist penetration”.

“Selangor is Malaysia’s leading and premier golf hub. It is a popular destination for both local and international golfers, looking for excitement on the course.”

This year’s tournament enjoyed “considerable support and sponsorship” from the Tourism Ministry, Arts and Culture and Selgate Corporation, with the intention of enhancing the organisation’s brand via golf tourism in Selangor, the statement said.
