AFTER an absence of two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Carlsberg Golf Classic, with more than RM1.6 million worth of prizes on offer, is back again.

Since its inaugural event in 1993, the Carlsberg Classic has supported the development of local golf and for many in the industry, it is generally known as the biggest and longest running amateur series in the country.

Thus, with the launching of the 2022 series this week, Carlsberg Malaysia’s managing director Stefano Clini noted: “Our investments behind the three-decade long Carlsberg Classic tournament shows our unwavering support towards the sport, the golfing fraternity and the golfing industry.

“To us, Carlsberg is all about bringing people together for a ‘celebration’. And that is why we upped the game this year, with greater prizes and excitement for both avid and new golfers to play, network and talk about the game in a fun, exciting and less competitive atmosphere.”

Clini added: “We’re proud to be probably the smoothest golf tournament around (working the company’s tagline). We’ve raised the bar this year with the first edition of the Carlsberg Golf Festival in conjunction with the national finals, novelty shots on the green and complemented by our signature brews, including Carlsberg Smooth Draught and the non-alcoholic beverage Somersby 0.0 sparkling fruit juice.”

The tournament, to run from this month to November, is expected to feature more than 3,800 golfers at 32 participating golf clubs nationwide – battling it out at some of the country’s toughest and most scenic courses.

Of the 32 qualifying rounds, 18 will take place in the Klang Valley, five down south, three up north, four in Sabah and two in Sarawak. This year, there will be two hole-in-one prizes at the national finals, courtesy of Mercedes Benz Malaysia – the A200 sedan and E200. Among the other prizes on offer are a Garmin Approach Z80, Garmin Fenix 5 plus titanium and a pair of “adidas Dress Like a Pro” outfit worth RM2,000 in the qualifying rounds.

The nett and gross champions will win a Garmin Approach S62 smartwatch and Titoni Slenderline Quartz timepiece, respectively.

The partners of the Carlsberg Classic 2022 are Mercedes-Benz, adidas, TaylorMade, Titoni, Garmin and Glen Moray.
