Refine your stroke

HERE is a stroke-building station that is among the best you will find anywhere. It tests every area of your putting action and includes the eye-line, path, face angle and alignment.

This string line method was endorsed by Karl Morris, who has worked with Major champions like Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell and South African Louis Oosthuizen. He said amateur players should employ it as it proves to be incredibly cost-effective and effective.

All you need to do is set it up just a short distance from the hole and working with it for just a few minutes at a time – it will tell you a great deal.

The gate

Using two tees, the gate should be fractionally wider than your putter head. Unless you are delivering the face square and hitting the middle, you will hit one of the pegs.

The arc

Putt with a slight arc and the line will show this as the putter head moves away from it on the way back, comes back to it at impact and moves inside again on the way through.

The eye-line

The string should split the ball in half as you look down if your eye-line is correctly over it.
