Fitting end to the season

Fans gather around #FEDEXCUP signage at the Tour Championship, the last event on the PGA Tour season.

RORY McIlroy’s triumph of the FedExCup last weekend, courtesy of his Tour Championship victory, brought the curtain down on the PGA Tour’s wrap-around season – one that could best be described as being fulfilling and entertaining.

This season had its schedule readjusted by the Tour with a view to making it more compact and in which the PGA Championship had its annual slot moved from the traditional August one to May, while the FedExCup Playoffs were brought forward from September to August to follow soon on the heels of the Major championships that features the British Open – held in Ireland for the first time since 1951 – as the last of golf’s four Grand Slam events.
