PETALING JAYA: R. Nachimuthu and S. Sivachandran were declared joint winners of the PGM Tour’s Kinrara Closed Championship as a downpour prevented a playoff at the Kinrara Golf Club in Puchong.
Nachimuthu went into Thursday’s final round of the RM160,000 championship with a one-stroke lead.
He shot a four-under 67 while Siva carded his second five-under 66 of the tournament to jointly finish on 12-under 272.
They each earned RM22,640 for emerging as joint winners.
Sivachandran, who was pleased with his performance this week, lamented the fact that they could not decide the title in a playoff because of the rain.
“I’m happy with how I played here. I had three rounds in the 60s and two of those were 66s ... so, I know I’m hitting the ball and putting well,” said Sivachandran, who last won in Kelantan last season.
“I’m looking forward to going to Impian (Golf & Country Club in Kajang) in three weeks’ time and continuing from where I left off here.”
Meanwhile, Danny Chia and Khor Kheng Hwai were tied for third – three strokes behind the winners – after their final round scores of 68 and 69 respectively.
The PGM Tour’s next stop is the Impian Closed Championship at Impian Golf & Country Club from April 9-12.
