PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals after thrashing Penang 11-3 on aggregate in the two-legged quarter-finals.
After hammering the Panthers 7-2 in the quarter-final first leg in Penang on Sept 20, the Southern Tigers kept their winning momentum going by beating them 4-1 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri in the second leg on Friday (Oct 9).
Striker Bergson da Silva scored the first goal in the 13th minute, and ten minutes later, midfielder Nacho Mendez added the second.
The third goal was scored by Iranian striker Shahab Zahedi in the 45th minute and the fourth was scored by playmaker Manuel Hidalgo in the 72nd minute.
Penang’s consolation was scored by Argentinian centreback Stefano Brundo in the 86th minute.
JDT will face either Brunei or Kuala Lumpur in the semi-finals.
