PETALING JAYA: The Lambert twins are set for a fresh challenge.
After previously playing for the City Boys, Ryan and Declan Lambert have decided to make the move to Borneo, signing for Kuching City ahead of the new season.
The 27-year-olds were unveiled by the club on Friday in what amounts to a statement of intent.
Both had been chased by Brunei, while Kuala Lumpur also fought to keep them, but the twins, born to an English father and a Malaysian mother in Kuala Lumpur, decided it was time for a new challenge.
The Cats will need all the quality and depth they can muster, with a heavy schedule of competitions ahead this season.
Domestically, they will play in the Super League, Charity Shield, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup, while also competing in the Asean Club Championship and the AFC Champions League (ACL) Two.
Declan is expected to operate at fullback, capable of playing on either the left or right flank, while Ryan is set to take up the role of deep lying playmaker, replacing Bahraini midfielder Moses Atede, who has left the club.
Declan has earned five caps for Malaysia, while Ryan received a call-up last year but is yet to win his first cap for Harimau Malaya.
Said Ryan: “There were a few factors behind my decision to come to Kuching, but probably the main one was the chance to experience and challenge ourselves in international tournaments again.
“The opportunity to play in the ACL Two and the Asean meet again was too good to pass up.”
