PETALING JAYA: The anxiety among Selangor fans is over.
After weeks of uncertainty over the future of their talismanic striker, the Red Giants confirmed on Friday that Chrigor Moraes has committed to the club for the upcoming M-League season.
The management had earlier indicated interest in retaining the 25-year-old Brazilian, but supporters were on edge as formal confirmation was delayed.
When it finally came, the club left little doubt about what Moraes had meant to them.
“After arriving with massive expectations, the lethal forward didn’t just meet the standard, he completely rewrote the history books,” said the club on their social media pages.
And they went on to describe his debut campaign by saying, “One of the most dominant individual seasons in our club in recent Malaysian football history.”
The numbers back that up. Moraes shattered a 19-year old club scoring record, netting 42 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions. Among those, 23 goals came in just 23 Liga Super appearances.
The club called him one of the most clinical finishers to ever wear the red and yellow jersey. Selangor also confirmed the retention of French-Moroccan midfielder Hugo Boumous, describing him as a midfield architect who has brought pure composure, elite tempo management, and a distinct tactical edge to the team’s engine room. Boumous, 31, contributed two goals and four assists in 14 appearances since joining, and the club said he was ready to cook up a storm on the pitch this season.
Beyond the marquee names, captain and winger Faisal Halim, Singaporean centre-back Safuwan Baharuddin, Finnish midfielder Nooa Laine, and young winger Aliff Izwan Yuslan will all remain with the squad.
The only notable departure is midfielder Aliff Haiqal Lau, who joins Penang on loan as he seeks regular playing time and looks to establish himself among the league’s top midfielders.
With their attacking talisman secured and a core group retained, Selangor head into 2026/27 with both continuity and ambition.
