PETALING JAYA: Heberty Fernandes is set to bring down the curtain on his Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) career, and he has every reason to leave with his head held high.
Since joining the Southern Tigers on July 21, 2023 from Thai club Bangkok United, the 37-year-old Brazilian has been nothing short of a trophy magnet.
In three seasons, he collected three Super League titles, three FA Cups, three Malaysia Cups and two Charity Shields, an extraordinary haul that underscores his immense contribution to the most dominant club in Malaysian football.
Across 74 appearances, Fernandes scored 30 goals and provided 17 assists.
Though his role diminished last season, 13 matches, three goals and two assists, his influence in the dressing room remained undiminished, shaped by years of experience in Thailand and Malaysia.
Taking to social media to announce his departure, Fernandes struck an emotional but grateful tone.
"After three unforgettable years, the time has come for me to say goodbye to this very special club," he wrote.
"These years were filled with learning, challenges, achievements, and titles that will forever be part of my story. More than the victories on the pitch, I will carry with me the friendships, respect, and memories that will never be forgotten."
"A special thank you to the Prince TMJ for the support. It was truly an honour to represent this club and wear this jersey. I leave with a grateful heart and with the certainty that I always gave my best in every moment."
Nathaniel Shio Hong Wan, 25, posted a heartfelt tribute on social media.
"What a pleasure and privilege to share the pitch with you, my friend. You have helped me on and off the pitch more than you know. You will be greatly missed — love you, my brother," he wrote.
Fernandes is expected to return to Brazil first to spend time with family.
Speculation is rife about his next destination, with Kuching City and a return to Thailand both mentioned as possibilities, though no confirmed move has been announced.
Whatever his next chapter holds, Fernandes departs JDT as a club legend.
