Kuching secure second spot in Super League after edging past KL 1-0

PETALING JAYA: Kuching City are heading to a historic first appearance in next season’s Asian Champions League (ACL) Two after securing a second-place finish in the Super League on Sunday (May 17).

The Cats’ sole goal at the Sarawak Stadium against Kuala Lumpur was enough to see them cement their spot in second place with 53 points, just one point ahead of Selangor in third place.

Cameroonian striker Jerome Etame delivered the crucial goal for Kuching in the 29th minute.

Meanwhile, Selangor ended their Super League season with a 6-0 win against Police at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.

Mukhairi Ajmal got himself a hattrick in front of home fans, while Alvin Fortes scored a brace. Aliff Izwan Yuslan completed the scoring with the other goal.

However, the goal fest was overshadowed as the team missed their chance to secure a ACL Two spot for next season.

Selangor still have one big challenge ahead this season as they face Thailand’s Buriram United in the Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup final first leg on Wednesday (May 20).

Kuching have a daunting task ahead too as they are set to battle Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the Malaysia Cup final on Saturday (May 23).
