PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s 4-0 win over Penang in the Super League on Saturday has given them a big confidence boost ahead of their Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup semi-final clash with Nam Dinh on Wednesday.

The Red Giants host the Vietnamese club in the first-leg tie in Petaling Jaya, followed by the second leg on May 13 at Nam Dinh Stadium.

Goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman was relieved to keep a clean sheet against Penang, and hopes the team can maintain their momentum for the cup game.

“The team really gave it their all and we scored some good goals,” said Izhan.

“We hope to keep the momentum going until the end of the season and most importantly, for the match against Nam Dinh.”

Against Penang, Selangor got their first three goals in the space of 10 minutes in the first half as Chrigor Moraes, Hugo Boumous, and Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar scored between the 11th and 21st minutes.

Second-half substitute Alvin Fortes scored the fourth and final goal in the 62nd minute to seal the three points and move them into second in the standings with 49 points.

Selangor have only one match remaining this season, and are two points ahead of Kuching, who have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, coach Kim Pan-gon said the win was a show of Selangor’s passion on the pitch, especially with the clash against Nam Dinh approaching on home turf.

“The game showed our attacking character, especially on home ground,” said Pan-gon.

“We scored three early goals, and we’ve been trying to make that our playing style.

“The coming game against Nam Dinh is very important and we’re looking forward to having the home support.’’
