Kuching topple Red Giants to reach first-ever Malaysia Cup final

PETALING JAYA: Kuching City have reached their first-ever Malaysia Cup final after edging Selangor 1-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday (April 18).

The Cats sealed a 2-1 aggregate win at the Sarawak Stadium, outplaying the 33-time champions in style to the delight of their home fans.

The hosts scored their sole goal in the 31st minute through Petrus Shitembi to give them the 2-1 aggregate lead.

In the second half, Selangor defender Safuwan Baharudin was shown a red card after a VAR review confirmed he had denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Things went from bad to worse for the Red Giants when Mukhairi Ajmal was also sent off for a reckless tackle, leaving Selangor down to nine men.

That proved decisive as Kuching held on to book their place in the final, where they will face Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) next month.
