JDT thrash KL 4-1 to reach sixth straight Malaysia Cup final

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) cruised into their sixth Malaysia Cup final after thrashing Kuala Lumpur 4-1 in the second leg match of the semi-finals on Tuesday (April 7).

The Southern Tigers built on their 4-0 first leg win with another four goals at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

JDT had the opportunity to lead in the first half but Bergson da Silva's penalty kick hit the crossbar in the 36th minute.

The Brazilian made up for the miss by scoring early in the second half when he put the ball past Kuala Lumpur's goalkeeper, Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam, in the 49th minute.

Hafizul made a mistake two minutes later, which gave defender Syahmi Safari the chance to tap the ball in and put his side up by two goals, before Bergson added another goal in the 58th minute.

The City Boys got their consolation goal through captain Giancarlo Gallifuoco in the 57th minute.

JDT's Ajdin Mujagic then delivered the final blow in the 88th minute and sealed their spot in the final.

Defending champions JDT will face either Selangor or Kuching, who are tied 1-1 after the first leg and will play their return leg on April 18.
